SoftPOS (Software Point of Sale) is a technology that turns your smartphone into a card payment terminal — without any additional hardware. All you need is an NFC-enabled phone and the right app, and you can start accepting contactless card payments right away.
Unlike traditional POS terminals, there's no separate device to buy or rent. Your phone's built-in NFC chip communicates directly with the customer's bank card or digital wallet (Apple Pay, Google Pay). The technology operates under the PCI MPoC (Mobile Payments on COTS) standard, ensuring the same level of security as a traditional terminal.
The process is surprisingly simple:
Download the app — install your provider's application on your phone.
Register and activate — enter your business details and accept the terms.
Accept payments — enter the amount in the app, the customer taps their card or phone, and you're done.
Most providers complete activation within 1–3 business days. Some, like Teya, can have you up and running within a single business day.
SoftPOS technology has been available on Android in Hungary for several years. Android's open NFC access allowed providers to enter the market relatively early with this solution.
For iPhones, things changed in March 2025: Apple officially launched Tap to Pay in Hungary. This means iPhone XS and newer models can now be used for card acceptance — but you'll need a compatible partner app (available through myPOS, SumUp, Viva.com, Revolut, or Adyen, among others).
If you have an iPhone, check whether your chosen provider already supports iOS. For Android, virtually every Hungarian provider offers a SoftPOS solution.
The Hungarian market in 2026 offers a wide range of options. Here are the main players:
K&H POS — K&H has offered SoftPOS for businesses for some time. The advantage is fast payouts and simpler onboarding for existing K&H customers.
Erste Bank — Erste Bank is not present as an independent service, but as a cooperating partner of Teya, in the development of small businesses. Together with Teya, they have created a bank card acceptance package that flexibly adapts to the needs of businesses. According to the bank, the monthly fee for SoftPOS is more than 80% lower than that of a physical mobile terminal. You can start within 2-3 business days after signing the contract.
UniCredit Bank — UniCredit also offers SoftPOS, occasionally with promotional rates.
OTP Mobile / SimpleBusiness — OTP Group offers SoftPOS through the SimpleBusiness solution, using MYPINPAD technology. The OTP infrastructure ensures fast payouts, and it integrates with the SimplePay ecosystem.
Raiffeisen Bank — Raiffeisen’s “Scan&Go” SoftPOS solution has no terminal monthly fee and can be used immediately from a mobile phone, and also offers Qvik (instant payment) integration, which is a differentiator in the market. Its pricing is typically IC++-based and competitive, with no entry barriers for small businesses. Its market position is more of an innovative, digital-first challenger among classic bank acceptors.
CIB Bank — The advantage of CIB SoftPOS is that it can be easily activated on an Android device, with a classic banking background and multiple currency settlements, making it a stable, enterprise-compatible solution. Its pricing is typically a standard bank merchant fee structure, with less aggressive promotions and more stable pricing. Its market position is conservative, a reliable banking player, mainly attractive to existing CIB businesses.
Teya — Teya Tap works on both Android and iOS. Transaction fees comparable to traditional terminals. Can be activated within one business day.
myPOS Glass — The myPOS app turns both Android and iPhone into payment terminals. You can choose between two plans: no monthly fee (higher transaction fee) or a subscription (lower transaction fee, better for high volume). Payouts are instant to your myPOS account, but transferring to a Hungarian bank account may incur extra fees and delays — keep this in mind.
SumUp — It works on both Android and iOS. SumUp offers Tap to Pay with a 1.95% transaction fee for consumer cards and no monthly fee. Payouts take a few business days. Note that SumUp operates as an electronic money issuer, not a traditional payment service provider.
One (formerly Vodafone) — A bank-independent SoftPOS solution that supports both contactless card payments and qvik instant transfers. Works on Android phones.
OkosKassza (SmartSoftPOS) — An independent provider with low monthly fees and competitive transaction rates.

SoftPOS fee structures vary by provider and aren't always transparent at first glance. Here's what to look for:
Transaction fee — the most important cost element. Typically ranges from 0.84% to 1.95%, depending on the card type (consumer/corporate, domestic/foreign) and the provider's pricing model.
Monthly fee — some providers (bank solutions, Fizetési Pont, OkosKassza) charge a monthly fee, while others (myPOS, SumUp) don't — but have higher transaction fees.
Activation fee — most providers don't charge one, but Teya charges HUF 8,000 + VAT.
Payout time and fees — bank providers and Fizetési Pont typically transfer funds within 1–2 business days. With myPOS and SumUp, it can take longer (3–7 business days), and myPOS may charge extra for transfers to your bank account.
Contract commitment — check if there's a minimum contract period. Fintech providers typically have none, while bank solutions may require one.
SoftPOS isn't the best solution for every business, but it's ideal for certain use cases:
Ideal if you:
Do mobile sales — courier, market vendor, event worker, home delivery.
Provide on-site services — hairdresser, beautician, massage therapist, repairperson.
Have low transaction volume and don't want monthly terminal fees eating into your profits.
Want to start quickly — no waiting weeks for terminal delivery and setup.
Need a backup solution — you have a fixed terminal at the counter but need a second device.
Less ideal if you:
Have high volume and need fast payouts — a bank POS terminal may offer better terms.
Need cash register integration — SoftPOS can't connect to fiscal printers.
Process hundreds of transactions daily — phone battery and manual amount entry become limiting factors.
Startup cost: SoftPOS typically has none or minimal (HUF 0–10,000), while a physical terminal costs HUF 30,000–150,000 to buy or HUF 3,000–8,000/month to rent.
Monthly fee: SoftPOS ranges from HUF 0–3,000, physical terminals typically HUF 3,000–10,000.
Transaction fee: Similar range for both solutions (0.8–2%).
Setup time: SoftPOS can be activated in 1–3 days, physical terminal delivery and setup may take 1–3 weeks.
Mobility: SoftPOS is always with you; a physical terminal is more stationary.
Functionality: Physical terminals offer more features (tipping, cash register integration, printing), while SoftPOS is simpler but faster to deploy.
Yes. SoftPOS applications hold PCI MPoC (formerly CPoC) certification, the international security standard for the payments industry. This means transaction data is encrypted in transit, card data is never stored on the phone, and the system continuously monitors device security.
The security level matches that of traditional POS terminals. Contactless payments are protected by EMV chip technology and tokenization, regardless of whether the transaction happens on a physical terminal or a smartphone.
SoftPOS is a mature technology in Hungary in 2026, with a wide range of providers. Before choosing, consider these factors:
What phone do you have? Android works with almost every provider. iPhone options are more limited (myPOS, SumUp, Teya, Viva.com, Revolut, Adyen).
What's your transaction volume? For low volume, no-monthly-fee solutions (myPOS, SumUp) may be advantageous. For high volume, bank solutions and Fizetési Pont may offer better transaction rates.
How important is fast payout? If you need the money next day, choose a bank provider.
Do you need cash register integration? If yes, SoftPOS alone won't be enough — you may need a physical terminal alongside it.
